Native Universe Mid-Winter Virtual Conference
January 28-29, 2016
Starting Time: 8am HST; 9am AKST; 10am PST; 11am MST; noon CST; 1pm EST
Ending Time: 1pm HST; 2pm AKST; 3pm PST; 4pm MST; 5pm CST; 6pm EST
Virtual Conference Objectives
- To share the research and project findings from the National Science Foundation-funded Native Universe project. Specifically, we aim to create an opportunity for the Native Universe team and our key collaborators (Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and former employees from the Powerhouse Science Center in Durango, CO) to share with the greater Indigenous education and informal science education communities their recent accomplishments and work related to collaborations between Indigenous educators/knowledge holders and informal science education museums. The conference will be designed such that attendees learn from experts in the field about Indigenous Ways of Knowing and how to possibly go about starting a relationship ideal for collaboration between Indigenous educators/knowledge holders and informal science educators.
- To expand our growing community of practice of informal science education institutions working to include Indigenous voice in their STEM work institutionally.
The Native Universe Mid-Winter Virtual Conference will build and expand upon a series of past Native Universe webinars hosted by ASTC this year, which can be viewed on the Multimedia page of this website. All attendees were encouraged to review these webinars before the January 28-29th Virtual Conference, especially if they did not participate in these live webinar sessions.
Who Registered To Attend
Over 80 participants registered to attend this online, virtual 2-day conference. The participants joined because they were interested in learning more about Indigenous Ways of Knowing, how it might be applied in informal education settings, and how to possibly go about starting a relationship ideal for collaboration between Indigenous educators/knowledge holders and informal science educators.
